Join us at Out The Back for a private, guided surf trip of New Zealand's South Island.

With around 6,000km of coastline to explore, the South Island provides us with a surfers playground that receives swells from all directions making it possible to surf somewhere everyday, you just need to know where - and that's the tricky part. Forecasting the waves in New Zealand can be very difficult as a lot must line up to score a pumping session. It does not work like clockwork here like breaks in Indonesia or The Maldives. Huge rivers, big tidal changes, massive swells and gale force winds make having local knowledge a must have when searching for pumping waves.

Our local guide Callum R-B, has many years of experience not only surfing New Zealand's complex waves but also exploring the mountains by foot and the oceans by sea-kayak. Callum is a teacher and guide who has a deep appreciation for New Zealand. He'd would love to share his knowledge and experience with you.

Food & Drinks
We take care of all meals whilst on an overnight surf trip with us so that you can just keep surfing as much as possible.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and all drinks are provided - a mix of delicious home-made cooking from freshly grown produce, BBQ's on the beach, and visits to our favourite restaurants and cafes.
24/7 Guide
Our guide is on call 24/7 for anything you need during a surf trip. You'll spend most of the days with the guide (unless you want him to bugger off), or if you're wanting some relaxing time.
Accommodations
As we'll be on the road for the majority of the trip, there'll be many different accommodations to stay in. We take care of booking these for you, working with our selected favourite Airbnb's, Lodges and Campgrounds depending on which route we take to chase the swell. We can discuss your accommodation needs when you request a quote so that we can select stays within the right budget for you.
Unlimited Transport
Depending on the length of your surf trip, you will either be picked up from Hokitika airport or Christchurch airport, as well as being dropped off. This is included in the trip cost, along with all other transport we provide daily to get to and from waves.
